The Middle Tennessee Association of REALTORS® expanded the power of NAR’s Planning & Zoning course by engaging elected officials and community members in a roundtable event the day before. The informative dialogue about growth, infrastructure, and zoning issues helped to facilitate communication and get stakeholders on the same page as the county’s Comprehensive Plan took shape.

East Tennessee Association of REALTORS® Taps Land Use Initiative Program to Defeat Proposed Down-zoning in Knoxville

When an unprecedented and arbitrary attempt to over-rule a recently adopted zoning determination was made by a Knoxville County Council member, the East Tennessee Association of REALTORS® turned to Robinson & Cole, LLC for expert analysis of the proposal. The law firm, retained by the REALTOR® Party to review zoning documents for state and local REALTOR® associations, returned a report that formed the basis of the REALTORS®’ successful opposition.

The City of Knoxville has long wanted to revitalize its downtown waterfront along the Tennessee River, to create an appealing sense of place and address the increasingly limited housing supply. To help get the project off the ground, the East Tennessee Association of REALTORS® turned to the REALTOR® Party’s Transforming Neighborhoods program, which awarded the city an in-depth study with actionable recommendations by a team of experts from the CRE Consulting Corps.

Median housing prices in Tennessee have increased over 22%, and newcomers are coming to the state in droves, so the values of fair housing and equal opportunity housing are more important than ever. To elevate and amplify conversations and advocacy promoting these principles, the leadership of Tennessee REALTORS® spearheaded an effort to have the state legislature pass a resolution making April Fair Housing Month at the state level.

Lakeway Area Association of REALTORS® Helps Tennessee’s Jefferson County Resist Moratorium on New Development

An Issues Mobilization Grant helped the local REALTORS® rally a Tennessee community in opposition to a proposed moratorium on new developments that would have increased the price of housing and hurt the construction and trade industries. One of the highest response rates in the shortest amount of time on NAR’s latest flood insurance Call for Action. In the three weeks that it was active, nearly 27 percent of Tennessee REALTORS® responded, asking Congress to reform and extend the National Flood Insurance Program.
